Agnes Duerrschnabel is a designer of Ceramic Materials and professional trainer.

She choose to move to Como with her husband more than 30 years ago, but her passion for ceramics started even before. In 2007 Agnes decided to certify her skills and abilities (as required in Germany to carry out this activity) following a course at the Staatl Fachschule für Keramikgestaltung Höhr-Grenzhausen (State Institute for Ceramic Ceramics Design).

From 2013 she opened his atelier in Como in via Borsieri 16, in the building of the ancient monastery of Santa Margherita. The monastery, along with many others in Como, has been closed by Napoleon and since then has started to have civil function.

When you enter the atelier, the eyes can hardly stop before exploring all the corners, but only a closer and slower look can appreciate the delicacy and strength of Agnes’s works. The best is to hear Agnes passionately telling you about the works exhibited at the Metiers D’Artes or about her favorite works (of the moment): three works originated from the natural element, two are recent while the third was created for her thesis at the State Institute for Design of Ceramic Materials.

Understanding the difference between terracotta, gres and porcelain and touching Agnes’s experiments is a unique experience. During the year, the atelier hosts courses and workshops to discover visiting

* Agnes’s tips:
LOCANDA FILOMENA (in Palanzo) is good beer, live music and so much sympathy. Describing it is not enough, it must be seen!

ITTITURISMO DA ABATE (in Lezzeno): cozy local with stone walls with Van des Froos music, without lake view but with excellent cuisine. They are also fishermen, so fresh fish and a great value for money.

LAROBATORIO di Aldo Sanpietro (in Como), contemporary art joinery, it is usually better to call it before visiting.

ATELIER DI WALTER CASTELNUOVO (in Palanzo): Walter is a very good ceramist, perhaps the only one in the area when I arrived in Italy 30 years ago. He lives in a very special house built in the 1600 and is a friend.

CINEMA GLORIA (Como): reassuring nostalgic place, remarkable for the passion with which the organizers have been pursuing their project for years despite various and constant difficulties.
